The Dakotas: Sunrise & Sunset
In all of America there may be no finer place to capture a dramatic sunrise or sunset than the Dakotas. Between the expansive plains and deep canyons, North and South Dakota feature the perfect landscapes to capture the perfect shot as the sun comes up or sinks behind the horizon. Capture Dakota photographers know this well and have captured sunrises and sunsets across the Dakotas in stunning form. This showcase features some our editors favorite sunrise and sunset photos from local photographers. Sit back and enjoy!
What is a showcase? As a part of the Capture Dakota experience, our editors will select photos from time to time and feature them in a showcase like you see here. A showcase is a digital publication of a collection of photos curated by our editors. Enjoy!

The Little Church On The Prairie
My cousin & I were out on one of our many explorations of the back roads of South Dakota when we came across this old church just to the north of Aberdeen, SD. I can't remember the exact date this was built, but I do know it was well over a 100 years old. The sun started to set just as we were leaving and I snapped this shot..

Showcased Challenge
Fog
The best way to add depth to a sunrise or sunset shot? Fog. We challenged Capture Dakota photographers to get out there and capture the perfect fog shot. The response was fantastic. The number of quality photo submissions was truly overwhelming. Our editors loved Michelle Erb's Shadows of the Morning photo, above. The People's Choice prize went to Jan Siemucha's photo, right. Take a moment and explore the other great Fog Challenge submissions.
